NBC set Nigeria to move to Digital broadcasting by June 2015

The world broadcasting system has been changing from the analogue system of broadcasting to the digitization, the changing began all over the UK in 2011 which was done region by region, and London finally changes around May 2012.
Nigeria had previously set at target for the digitization around June 17 2012 but the date was shifted because it is seen all over that the broadcasting Industry is not prepared at all for the digitization to kick off.
The new date has been issued by the NBC – Nigeria Broadcasting Commission where he is assuring the whole nation that Nigeria will achieve the digitization by June 17 2015.
Speaking at a conference organized by the body controlling the forth coming Africa Broadcasting Conference (Africast 2012), DG NBC, Mr Yomi Bolarinwa, gave an assurance that the digitization move will be achieved by this date.
The move was proposed by the ITU – International Telecommunication Union in 2006 when it set a targeted deadline for the world to transform from analogue mode of broadcasting to digital.
By this date and after, analogue TV receivers will no longer receive signals because the broadcasting stations will be transmitting on digital, except if the receivers had gotten a Set-Top Box.
All section of the broadcasting value chain will be affected by this digitization such as; transmission, reception, and content production, as it will cost them a technical upgrade that will support the digital broadcast.
Bolarinwa assured that Nigeria is going to bit the ITU deadline adding that the Africast 2012 is taken place when the nation is seriously preparing for the switch from analogue to digital terrestrial TV broadcast.
As he spoke along, he said explaining that content is king in the broadcasting industry, digitization will be about quality content.
In his final statement, he said that Mr Labaran Maku, the Hon Minister of Information would soon inaugurate the committee that will take over oversee the move from analogue broadcasting to digital terrestrial broadcasting.
But in my own opinion, I do believe Nigeria can even get there before the speculated time with the rate at which everything is changing throughout the world.
US and other European countries have made the move and there’s nothing stopping us from doing the same anytime soon.

Elebuwa: Dark cloud on movie kingdom

has heightened the death scare in the entertainment industry
After a prolonged battle with ailment
said to be stroke-related, veteran actor, Enebeli Elebuwa, on Wednesday
finally left the stage that the world is. The sun set on his life in an
Indian hospital.
Following his death, several artistes
have taken to the social networking site, Twitter, to pay homage to him.
Actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, who said she saw Elebuwa as a father,
tweeted, “He looked so much like my father. He joked many times that he
was. I lost one 21 years ago now you too are gone! Adieu Enebeli
Elebuwa!”
Tweeting with doubt or not willing to
believe the obvious, another actress, Omoni Oboli, wrote on her profile,
“If it is true that my worthy colleague Elebuwa, has passed on, then
it’s a sad day in Nollywood! May his soul rest in peace.”
On her part, Emem Isong, a movie
producer, writes, “Rest in peace Elebuwa. Another big loss for
Nollywood. May God grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Some singers have also left condolence
messages on their profiles, with Sidney Esiri otherwise called Dr. Sid
writing, “My condolences to the family of Enebeli Elebuwa. The Lord is
your strength. He was a great man and a Nigerian icon.”
Even among Nigerian movie enthusiasts,
the messages have been pouring in on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and
popular websites. One of the comments read, “All my lovely elder actors
are dying, but Elebuwa, may your gentle soul RIP. Is very painful what
is happening in AGN. Death everywhere; we need prayer because the death
is too much.”
Like Isong and many others rightly
pointed out, Elebuwa’s death is one too many for Nollywood and indeed
the Nigerian entertainment industry. In the past two years, several
practitioners have been forced to take untimely bows due to ailments,
out of which stroke is the latest entrant.
A few months ago, popular stage actor,
Gogo Ombo, died from partial stroke that resulted from a long battle
with diabetes. Ombo was closely followed by Yoruba actor, Ahmed Oduola
(Dento).
What makes Elebuwa’s death painful to
some people is the effort that was put into trying to make him live
longer. After battling the illness for some time, he was reportedly
taken to the Perfect Christian Ministry in Surulere, Lagos in an
apparent search for healing.
He was taken to Pastor Fireman’s church
afterwards, where there were claims that the actor had been healed. The
claims were followed by a video posted online with Fireman practically
dragging Elebuwa around for the world to witness.
At a point, he was taken to his home
town, Utagba Uno, in Delta State before the state government came into
the picture, sent him to an Abuja-based hospital before he was taken to
India where he finally died.
The deceased had in October raised hopes
that he was getting better when he phoned from India to say, “I’m
getting better.” But this was not to be. A source close to him said he
suffered sclerosis as opposed to the popular view that it was stroke.
But whether it was sclerosis or stroke, the fact remains that Elebuwa
would perhaps have survived if medical care had been made available to
him from the beginning.
Most Nigerian artistes, who had died
from prolonged illness, suffered such cruel fate due to lack of funds.
Although nobody has considered the possibility, artistes could actually
look inwards and see how to forestall such misfortune.
Elebuwa was by all means a prolific actor, whose vacuum cannot be filled. He began acting in 1974 with the movie, Dinner with the Devil,
produced by Sanya Dosumu, and shot in celluloid. He later acted the
role of Andrew in a short television campaign against brain drain in the
late 80s with his popular slogan, “Andrew, are you checking out?”,
which earned him the name ‘Andrew’.
He joined Nollywood in 1994 – after
several years as a producer and director with the Nigerian Television
Authority – and featured in several movies.
In New Zealand-Rescue Dogs Taught How To Drive A Car
Monty, Porter and Ginny have learned the skills to prove how intelligent dogs can be, in an attempt to encourage more potential owners to come forward.
The drive for publicity by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals saw the four-legged friends spend weeks getting to grips with four wheels.
The dogs, a giant schnauzer, a whippet cross and a beardie cross can change gear, steer and brake.
They sit in a driving position on their haunches responding to instructions called out from the dog behaviour experts.
Animal trainer Mark Vette and his team began training the animals using a mock vehicle before introducing them to a real car – a Mini especially adapted for paws.
He said: “We chain behaviours together … in this case we’ve got 10 behaviours we’re putting together. Then you put them into a sequence. It’s a lot to do, and for the dog to actually start to get an idea of what actually is happening takes quite a long time.
“So we’ll start the car, get into position, brake on, gear in place, back onto the steering wheel, accelerator, take off and hoon (=drive fast) along the straight and then stop,” said Mr Vette.
However, the animal trainer says things did not always go smoothly when the dogs got into the real car.
“A couple of days ago the car was going too fast, the trainer nearly got run over,” he said.
Now the animals can start a car, accelerate and steer they are scheduled to show off their skills on live TV in New Zealand next week.
For the final test the dogs will also have to brake as they are driving along a narrow lane.
Trainers are hoping they won’t become too distracted driving past any lamp posts.

Mohammed Jammal makes history as “First White Nigerian” to take part in NYSC
Jammal joined Nigerian entertainment industry whilst studying
in London. His debut performance was as a guest comedian on the AY Live
in London’s 02indigo show in 2010.
He’s also performed in different shows including AY Live (London,
Abuja, Lagos, Asaba), Lord of the Ribs with Basket Mouth in Abuja,
Nigeria @ 50 in Trafalgar Square, London, P-Square’s Album Launch in
Lagos, Harp Rhythm Unplugged, Crack Ur Ribs and many more.
Jammal recently moved into the music industry collaborating
with artists JJC and Terry Tha Rapman and released popular club songs
in 2011 rapping in both Hausa and Pidgin English single called “Taka
Rawa” His latest effort is a single titled Dirty Wine, the single made
it to the No. 1 spot on Wazobia FM and No 10. On MTV’s top 10 Afro beats
songs.
‘White Nigerian’ is currently in the NYSC Orientation Camp in
Nasarawa State Central Nigeria. Jammal is arguably the first ever full
“White” or Nigerian participate in the National Youth Service Corp
scheme, a programme established to expose young Nigerians to cultures
and people they would not otherwise have contemplated knowing. NYSC came
into being in Nigeria in the 70′s.
‘White Nigerian’ Jammal does not have dual citizenship. In his

‘D’Banj Proposed To Me’ – Kokoma
Very few Nigerians will know the renowned musician named Kokoma
Ikpong, but majority of people will know her as a very wealthy and young
business lady. Few days before this interview, our press team was
alerted that she was in town and luckily she was spotted having cocktail
with few white friends of hers.Hi, can we meet you?
I’m Kate Kokoma Ikpong.
We understand you’re not fully based in Nigeria, can you talk about that?
Yes, I’m based in California USA. I have two companies there and am actually running down home finally. I might still go back to California but for now I feel it’s time to come enjoy Africa and do something here, at lease contribute to growth of the country.
You are into music, we have seen your smashing video, can you tell us about your music career?
I have been a music lover right from my secondary school, was the vice president of a choreography club. Then we used to perform every Sunday at the chapel. Started writing songs from SS.2 and I recorded my first single in 2006. I then moved to United States, and have been privileged to be in the studio with amazing artiste like Beyonce, Rihanna, Coldplay, Avril lavigne, Shade Adu and I actually did a song with R-Kelly but that record wasn’t released. So professionally I have been into music for six years.
So now that you are in Nigeria, what’s your plan for the Nigeria Music Industry?
I have always been a business person and truthfully I know what it’s like being new or rather, functioning in a new geographical area or market. So for now I want to make friends, partner with young people and just have fun but also focusing on building a brand musically in Nigeria.
Which Nigerian artist would like to work with?
I have so many of them and truth be told I have a bit of a crush on some single Nigerian Male Artiste. I truly feel Flavour is quite cute and yes my very own D’banj. I’d really like to work with BankyW, Asa, WizKid, Tuface, Flavour, Olamide, Eva, BrymO, Tiwa Savage and the list goes on.
What’s the craziest thing you have experienced so far in the Nigeria Music Industry?
A lot actually, but I still feel Alaba market people are quite weird to me or maybe I just need to understand the Nigerian music business a bit more.
What made you leave the United States to come start all over in Nigeria?
I don’t know actually, but here’s a thing, when I was making plans to come back home most of my friends were like “why are you going to Africa, please don’t go”. Guess what I told them? I sincerely don’t know where that thought came from but I just said, “D’Banj proposed to me.” They were so excited and immediately got their blessings and here I am pursuing that dream to bless the Nigeria Music Industry.
How old are you?
I’m in my 20’s, single and looking for my African Prince.

Former boxing champion Mike Tyson has revealed he had caught Hollywood hottie Brad Pitt making love to his ex-wife.

Da Holyman started his music in the early 90s in Jos city, Nigeria. He was a member of the popular group known as Men In Black (MIB) a group formed by Da Holyman and Late Rex Alberto Shibarbs who was one of the best radio presenters in Jos and Nigeria at that time. Da Holyman was Influenced by the king of Pop, Michael Jackson of blessed memory. He started music with the stage name “Voodoo man”, a man who had sold his soul to the devil. Living a bad life style and writing X-rated lyrics.
The name Da Holyman evolved after his personal encounter with Jesus Christ, after reading the Bible passage that says, “at the end of time all men shall bear the inscription Holy, Holy, Holy on their foreheads and chest”. Born August 19, 1975, hails from Gwer Local Government of Benue State Nigeria. The home state of one of Africa’s best music artistes 2 Face Idibia.
His real name is Terry Tyokura Gang, handles the acoustic guitar and keyboard. Calls his kind of music ZEBRA Music, meaning a style of music that is neither gospel nor circular, but in between. Just like the Zebra animal which is neither black nor white, but in between. He is blessed with a gift of writing deep and conscious lyrics with constant recourse to rhyming scheme. He raps with confidence and skills, recently people have likened him to Rugged Man, mode 9 and presently MI. From this moment onwards, Da Holyman is taking over the Nigerian music industry with his Holy lyrics. He has a slogan “Holy life” a concept he deduced from the late 2 Pac Shakur’s Thug Life Message.
Holyman attended Corona Private School Bukuru, after which he proceeded to Federal Government College Jos. Due to transfer, he moved to Greater Tomorrow Comprehensive Secondary School Benin, Edo State Nigeria. He returned to Jos to pursue a Diploma Programme in Tourism at the Plateau State Polytechnic Barking Ladi. His search for knowledge never stopped him from pursing his musical career as he was performing on campus and even performed at Miss Uni-Jos Beauty Pageant then alongside Rex Alberto Shibarbs of MIB. Not satisfied with the Diploma Qualification, he went to University of Abuja to study a course related to his ambition in life. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts and is currently undertaking a second degree in Computer Science. He served in Ebonyi State during his National Youth Service Corpse Assignment. He was posted to Ebonyi State Arts Council, where he won the Second Best Choreographer prize at the orientation camp with the dance he directed and choreographed.
He also has an American award known as Konga Hidden Talents Awards, which he won in the year 2000. Holyman emerged the overall winner of the University of Abuja campus talent hunt show, with the song “One Man’s Food is Another Man’s Poison” in 1998/9 Da Holyman’s debut album is titled Happy Home. It is a 10 tracker album. The title Happy Home is used symbolically here. Home here refers to his beloved country Nigeria. Mama refers to Mother Nature. The album opens with the title track Happy Home, the second track, Lucky man. A question pops up as track three, Why Do You Judge Me? Wife Party, Dance for me and A One Party mix are the fourth, fifth, sixth track respectively.
A remix of Happy Home featuring Adu Deme is on the seventh track. Even people with clean lyrics have one special person in their life, that is why the pen ultimate track is titled Anything I Do, I Do For You. The final track on this album is titled One Man’s sounds is Another Man’s Noise. This album has a song for every class of music lover, a song for the young, old, good and bad people

Civil Defence Officer Dies On Top of Girlfriend After Going Rounds Without Eating
According to a source at 2, Orok Ita Street, Big Qua, where Ofem was living before he met his unfortunate death, the man came back from duty on Friday evening and without eating any food went into marathon sex with the girl and passed away during the act.
“He came back from work and told me he was hungry and I prepared food for him but when I got there, his door was shut and when I knocked he told me to take the food back and bring it later. When I took the food to him later, his door was open and when I knocked he did not answer. When I went in I saw him lying naked on his bed,” the source said.
Ofem who hails from Mkapani in Yakkur Local Government Area is alleged to be fond of having sex with girls never minding he had eaten or not.
“When she came she greeted us but we did not take particular interest in her and when she came out of his room we did not say anything to her because we did not suspect anything unusual until his town girl brought him food,” a neighbor said about the girl who slept with the victim.
“People from his office came here and disturbed the whole street but they could not arrest anybody because the girl went away with his phone,” the neighbour said.
The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Calabar, Mrs Nkoyo Bassey when contacted for comments said: “The man was enjoying himself so that is strictly his personal responsibility and not the Corps’. Have a good day”.
One of the deceased’s colleagues at the Operations unit of the Corps where he worked before his death said there are efforts to track down the lady “but for now we have not arrested anybody”

Basketmouth was Embarssed as Police raid mainland clubs
affected Basketmouth's EmBARssy lounge located at 12 University Rd,
where at least 10 individuals were arrested without any reason. They
were released the next day.The police officers were said to have harassed and arrested people at will in the midnight raid which saw them roving all around the clubs and lounges in three Black-Maria and two Hilux vehicles.

People are alleging that the owners of Road Runners (Diran and Sobowale)
may have deliberately used the police to frustrate EmBARssy Lounge, which
has since become the most patronized fun spot in in the area.
Basketmouth and owners of the other fun spots affected by the raid are
planning to petition the Lagos State Commissioner of Police
against the action of the Sabo-Yaba police station officers, as the raid
reportedly scared away many patrons which has led to loss of millions
of naira in revenue.
Meanwhile,
the Lagos State Police Command has described the allegation of being
biased as unfounded and an act of wickedness. Reacting on the police raid, the PPRO, Ngozi Braide told reporters
that the affected club owners were only being sentimental.
"It
is not possible for any club or lounge to control the Lagos State
Police Command and the commissioner of Lagos. That is wickedness on the
part of anybody insinuating this. It was a joint operation by Rapid
Response Squad (RRS) and Area C. It happened in the early hours of
saturday. They targeted black spots" Braide explained.

Pastor Chris Okotie not getting married this December
Pastor Chris Okotieannounced the end of his four year marriage to Stephanie Henshaw on Sunday 24th June 2012 during a church service. We later heard that he was planning to re-marry before the end of the year because according to him 'it's not good for a man to be alone'.
Rev Okotie has finally reacted to the report, saying it's 'baseless, totally false and ridiculous'. Ladi Ayodeji from church’s Media and Communications Department released the statement below
"The public is hereby informed that Rev. Okotie never announced any plans to remarry this December or at any future date. He remains committed to his pledge not to speak on his marriage. Any story in this regard should therefore be seen as the handiwork of mischief makers."

In part three of his interview with radio personality Big Boy, Breezy addressed all the criticism he received after he and his crew dressed up like bearded terrorists toting fake guns. “It’s f—ing Halloween,” he yells during his profanity-laced tirade. “It’s a motherf—ing Pagan holiday, we dress our kids up as Satan, demons, little goblins and all this other stuff. Get over it, people.”
“I was dressed as the motherf—ing people we killed,” Brown continued. “The person [we] killed: Bin Laden. I was dressed as the people [we] killed. It’s nobody’s motherf—ing business and everybody who’s really mad about it, “F— y’all.”
Tsk, tsk. It seems that Brown doesn’t get it. Why would anyone want to dress like the most sought-after criminal of the 21st century? And what about the families who lost loved ones behind Osama Bin Laden’s despicable act of terrorism on 9/11? Is it none of their business that you want to parade around in turbans, beards and robes for fun?
Apart from Brown’s less-than tactful response to the controversy, his thinking wasn’t different from his mother’s attitude about it. She tweeted to her son’s fans, “Halloween is for fun nothing more than just fun. Get a life, please.”
Now we can see why Brown jumped on the ‘Nobody’s Business‘ track with Rihanna. Art, often times, imitates life.
D’Prince’s ‘Frenzy’ [Album Review]

Just as he sang about a certain girl called ‘Amina’ on a track of the same name, Frenzy is flashy but lacks substance.
He has been waiting in the wings for quite some time now. After the success of his songs (Omoba and Ooze featuring Wande Coal) in 2009, D’Prince was the next artiste to be churned out of the Mo’Hits machine, which had already created stars out of D’Banj,
Wande Coal and Dr. Sid. Sadly for D’Prince, that didn’t happen, as his
debut album was pushed back several times. Irrespective of this setback,
D’Prince remained relevant, thanks to his feature on Samklef’s mega-hit single ‘Mo Lowo Noni’ featuring Ice Prince and Wizkid, who have gone on to release successful debut albums, and his 2010 hit single ‘Give It To Me’ featuring D’Banj.
After the Mo’Hits split, D’Prince moved to his brother’s label Mavin Records.
It was obvious that D’Prince was going to be the first act to be
released under the newly formed label. I guess when it’s your time, it’s
your time.
With so much time spent in the shadows,
D’Prince is eager to show the world what he has to offer. He packs a
total of 20 tracks on Frenzy (the deluxe version, which can be bought online has an astonishing 24 tracks).
D’Prince has never paraded himself as a
‘deep’ or ‘conscious’ artiste, so don’t expect depth on this album. What
you will get from him are mostly party tracks. ‘Bad Girl’ the album’s opener experiments with country music and rock. The result isn’t that great, as D’Prince sings “I dey pop, I am not a pauper, drinks flying in the air like a chopper”’
Luckily, the best song on the LP follows; ‘Journey of a Thousand Miles’
featuring Wande Coal and Don Jazzy. It is a song that tells you that
it’s never too late for you to chase your dreams. In it D’Prince gives
his most inspirational line: ‘you don’t have to be told what to do.
You just have to decode what to do. Don’t be waiting to be told, there’s
a story to be told.’ The inspirational Omoba gives way for the party animal on the rest of Frenzy.
Partying and decadence make up the theme on the first half of the LP as tracks such as ‘Goody Bag’, ‘Africa Zumba’, ‘Carry It Up’ featuring Timaya, and ‘Believe’ could easily enter the soundtrack compilation of Project X
(a 2012 Hollywood movie of the craziest High School party of all time).
D’Prince makes reference to this movie on one of the standout tracks on
the album ‘Painting The Town Red’ featuring Wizkid. “Project X ain’t got shit on us, all the drinks you see is [sic] on us” sings D’Prince on the track with Wizzy.
D’Prince’s greatest calling card as an
artiste is his unique ability to turn the nonsensical into party music.
He does this well on ‘Call Police’- a track about the recreational use of weed on the dance floor. You don’t pause to ponder when he sings “smoke Igbo, call MOPOL, wheel barrow”. You are lost in the hazy frenzy.
As the disc enters the second half, Omoba gets into troubled waters. The former rapper tries to spit bars on a couple of songs ‘Real G’ featuring M.I and ‘Overdose and Jonzing’ featuring Yung Breed.
M.I doesn’t have to go up a gear to run circles around the Prince of
Mavin. Both tracks feature a D’Prince with a feeble flow and delivery
that isn’t cock sure.
More cringe worthy lines pop up on ‘Shower’ when D’Prince actually says ‘my money wey dey ooze like chuku chuku’. On ‘No More Sleeping On ‘Em’ where Wizkid awkwardly boasts of having a 9mm gun like David Banner, D’Prince drops another wack line when he sings ‘I don grow o, I chop Don Jazzy fertilizer. It’s not something that you find in your Tantalizer’.
When a superhero is in trouble, his superhero friends come in and rescue him. Fellow Mavins, Wande Coal and Tiwa Savage save the latter end of the LP with their feature on ‘Ojoro’ and ‘Ife’ respectively. They help salvage the album as lackluster songs (Chant, Thank You) threaten to drown it.
Truth is, if D’Prince hadn’t stretched
his album to over an hour long, it would’ve been better, especially with
most of the songs in the first half of Frenzy. Omoba simply
doesn’t have what it takes to keep you interested for very long. The
production isn’t exactly varied, leaning towards the Electro pop sound.
Frenzy partially lives up to
its name, as it boats of songs that fuel your party rage. It just
doesn’t take you through the whole night as it runs out of ideas and
gets low on creative fuel. You may have one hell of a ride bumping this
album, but you’ll be left with a nasty hangover the morning after,
wondering where the plot was lost.
